FAMILY STORY GUIDES

A memoir for parents who do not want to type

Before choosing a service, try the way your parent will actually use it.

Talking can be easier than a blank page

Someone who dislikes writing may still enjoy telling a story. A voice interview lets them begin with what they remember instead of worrying about spelling or paragraphs. It is not the right format for everyone: some people prefer writing privately.

Test the phone, not just the homepage

Use the storyteller’s own phone. Check whether they can sign in, find the recording button, stop the recording and read the transcript. Try an interruption. Ask what they found confusing. A beautiful website is not evidence that the interview will feel comfortable.

Look for editing and export

Ask whether you can correct a transcript, revise a chapter and download your writing. Find out how recordings are stored and what happens when an account is deleted. Keep a copy of the stories that matter to you.

Separate the interview from the printing decision

Before paying for a printed memoir, check the page allowance, colour printing, shipping destination and replacement policy. Do not assume that a photograph of a book on a website describes the book included in the offer.

What HelloYears lets you try

The interview application supports spoken answers, optional question suggestions and memoir draft editing. Our sample shows fictional source notes and a chapter made from them. For current print options, contact hello@helloyears.com before placing a book order.
